insert photo	Cathy Esser-Crans, MS, LMHC Sexual Assault Therapist: CathyE@riverviewcenter.org Cathy returned to the Riverview Center as a Therapist last year, after serving here as a Therapist from 2000 to 2003. She is an IowaCASA Certified Sexual Abuse Counselor, Iowa Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and National Certified Counselor. She has received advanced training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) a well-researched memory reprocessing technique that is the most recommended treatment for PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder), and which has helped many of her clients resolve painful memories. She worked for several years as a school-based counselor and as a therapist in the mental health field. She holds a Master’s degree in Counselor Education and continues to benefit from ongoing, extensive training in the areas of trauma, attachment and cognitive behavior therapy, including trainings in treating sexual abuse from the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault Training Institute and Midwest Conference on Childhood Sexual Abuse.
